It’s been sunny in Oregon, which is weird, because by now we would ordinarily have had many inches of rain. It’s been nice for photography, though. I was able to get out the other morning and shoot at McDowell Creek Park. It’s in a small valley, so even at 9:00 a.m. I beat the sun and worried for my safety, as it is in cougar country. I saw some tracks by the side of the road and was checking them out. As I turned to head back to my car, I saw something up the gravel road across the street from me. A buck was about halfway up the hill, watching me. I went back to my car and stood there silently, hoping he’d come down.
He started making his way down through the brushy hillside and crossed the road down a ways from where I was waiting. Darn! I grabbed my camera and walked toward the river, thinking (mistakenly, perhaps) that if there was a deer, there probably wasn’t a cougar. As I rounded the bend, there he was, watching me. I managed to fire off a couple of shots before he went bounding into the underbrush. I have to say, this was the highlight of a beautiful day in the woods.
Oh, and I got a decent shot of the fall colors, too. 😉 If you are interested, it can be purchased here.
